About Tim

A native of Los Angeles, Tim immersed himself in art and media from an early age.  He began painting in oils at the age of 10, the same year he wrote his first computer program.  This mixture of art and technology was to become the hallmark of his career. Mr. Gilmour brings a deep understanding of creative media and technology, garnered over a decade of experience in the design, entertainment, and internet industries.

Tim attended UCSD, intending to become an anthropologist, but instead was seduced by art and design.  He studied painting and sculpture with Italo Scanga and conceptual art under Alan Kaprow, and art history, especially the indigenous art of Africa, Oceana, and America, under Dr. Jehanne Teilhet-Fisk. In 1996, Tim left San Diego to pursue fine art, exhibiting mainly on the West Coast. His work centered around abstract landscape representations, as well as functional sculpture and motorized pieces. Soon Mr. Gilmour’s lifelong fascination with technology prompted him to begin an new career in television post production. Tim worked his way up through the ranks to lead teams of editors, assistants, and coordinators, working on several hundred hours of network television for clients like ABC, Fox, and Disney.

During the Internet boom of the late 90s, Tim was involved with a number of dotcoms and startups, including Vidnet.com, a pioneer of streaming media, and WorldNet Resource Group, an incubator where he was Creative Director. In 2001, Tim founded Badzen Creative, a multidiscipinary design studio focused on entertainment-related web and interactive projects. Badzen worked with a number of alternative recording artists and labels, developing and cultivating an underground aesthetic that was famously described as “urban corporate”.  Badzen also did extensive design, animation, and coding work for internet entertainment portals, design and graphic houses, and video game companies.

In 2004, Mr. Gilmour became a Partner at Bent Concepts, a strategic marketing firm in Los Angeles. As Creative Director at Bent, Mr. Gilmour oversaw all production and creative work at the agency for clients like Mattel, DirecTV, and Electronic Arts.  In 2005, he and his partners founded Global Marketing Solutions, a production offshoring company with offices in Los Angeles and Kansas City, and production centers in Hong Kong and Shenzhen, China.  In 2006, Tim became Executive VP of TLR New Media, an interactive offshoot of TLR & Associates, an entertainment advertising firm.

In 2009, Tim and his long-time friend and associate, Nicholas Bennison, formed Dualform Studio, a digital agency focused on building smart design for the web and other emerging media.

Mr. Gilmour lives in Los Angeles with his two daughters and still, somehow, finds time to paint.
